Fat tony campervan
What a great compact campervan! This year we decided to stay in the uk, first time in a campervan, Peter couldn’t have been more helpful when picking up fat tony plenty of information on how things are done.
Our third day of having fat tony the water pump completely stopped, phoned Peter at this point we where heading towards Scotland Peter was very helpful and managed to locate a garage that could help on our way to Scotland! Thank you
The van was clean and had everything you needed for your trip. Following our trip away I am now on the hunt for my own campervan
Thank you for everything would definitely recommend to a friend
Bart to Tenby
A very interesting ‘first attempt’ in a motorhome. Handover was seamless and laid back. I found the 7m van a trifle large for my liking although really easy to drive. We learnt a lot and it certainly hasn’t put us off. Facilities in the van were great especially the superb shower.
On tour with Barney in the tour of Scottish highlands
Hired Barney for a fantastic tour of the scottish highlands. Lovely motorhome with all the facilities you need and very comfortable and easy to drive. Great service from hireahymer coudn’t ask for more. Thanks for a really memorable holiday Pete at HireaHymer.
Vehicle had all we needed for our trip…
A nice compact Campervan which served its purposed for our trip to Scotland. With unlimited mileage, it made our trip worth while. Ideal for a young/elderly couple & dogs to get away for a short breaks anywhere in the UK
I will be looking to using this small family run business again in the near future.
Fat Tony... Home from home
We recently hired Fat Tony to travel to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland for two weeks. What an amazing adventure. Fat Tony was excellent. Very comfy to drive and travel long distance. We had a couple of teething problems… Water tank overflowed a bit the first night causing a bit of a flood. Phoned Pete and he offered to drive up to the Lake District to sort out, but the problem resolved itself. We didn’t fill it above 3/4 tank in future and had no further problems. The second night when we tried to connect our electricity at our campsite, nothing happened. Turned out the fuse had blown. Again, another call the Pete and everything was sorted. No further problems. We were really impressed with how comfy the bed was and bonus that you didn’t have to fold away after use and make again ever night. Also the shower was great. Powerful and plenty of hot water… Only downside you couldn’t turn around or bend down… But it did the job and was honestly better than the showers on some of the campsites. Although compact and bijou, Fat Tony had everything you need. A proper home from home. We loved it.
Information, customer service and communication we’re brilliant from first contact to last. I would highly recommend Hire a Hymer and we would definitely book again.
Already booked for next year!!
We sold our caravan in lockdown and hired Fat Tony for a week. The place us easy to find and Pete is really friendly and explains everything. We had a problem with the water in that we had a leak and Pete came out the same day and got it sorted. We have already booked up for next year too!!!
We hired a fabulous motorhome from this company last week. Peter the owner is very friendly and extremely helpful.
Great service as always,
Have used hireahymer a few times and have always had a great experience. Vehicles are always in great working order, kitted out with all the necessary cutlery, crockery etc. needed for a trip away.
Hope to use again sometime in the future when needs arise,
Great people to hire from
Good range of vehicles to choose from, fair rates, great location to start from and able to leave your own vehicle with them in a safe location.
Hire of Motorhome Maggie 4 berth
I recently hired Maggie the motorhome from the 2nd to the 9th of july 2021, i used the motorhome to travel to Cornwall for a 5 night stay in Redruth on collecting the motorhome it was clean & tidy and i received excellent instructions on how everything worked on the motorhome.
I would personally recommend the hire of a motorhome to friends from Hire a Hymer.
Really good experience…..
First time motorhoming and really enjoyed the holiday, Cumbria and Anglesey in BART was very comfortable, easy to use all equipment and nice to drive …..would do it again ,thanks Peter 👍🏼

Complete novices we hired Fat Tony to do The Cleveland Way. Worked brilliantly. Motor home was spotlessly clean and Pete couldn’t have been more helpful.
Barney Camper Van
Fantastic camper-van, would highly recommend Barney. Very comfortable for 2 of us plus 1 dog. Really comfy beds, plenty of storage and included all necessary items such as pots & pans, plates/bowls and cutlery.
We had a great time and will definitely hire again.

Fantastic get away
We hired Bart for three nights to meet up with friends from the 10th of June.

Bart drives great and is packed with all the essentials for cooking and dining.
The fixed bed is really comfortable.
Shower was good and roomy.
Everything you could want really from a motorhome.
Great customer service from first phonecall to dropping Bart back.
Would definitely use again.
Brilliant service! Barney, Maggie and Fat Tony
We have just finished hiring 3 out of 4 of Pete’s vans. We are a group of 9 friends who follow Wales home and away and due to Covid had our trips to Azerbaijan and Rome cancelled. We instead decided on a tour of Wales in campervans in hope of repeating our trip to France in 2016. We found this company online, and from start to finish Pete was absolutely fantastic to deal with. We had previously been stung in 2016 with another company who took our £1250 deposit off us for a rubber seal breaking on a window we had never opened, so as you can imagine we were overly cautious on this trip. Unfortunately however, accidents do happen and I unfortunately reversed one of the vans into a small fence when trying to park, thus damaging the bumper. Pete had said if anything happened to let him know straight away. I was expecting the worst but Pete was unbelievably understanding and helpful with the situation advising how to secure the bumper for the rest of the trip. On our journey home one of my friends accidentally broke one of the head rests on their van, panic set it once again. I messaged Pete and once again he was very understanding and helpful with the situation. When we got back he took a look at both bits of damage, explained the headrest was an easy fix and he wouldn’t be charging us and that he would try to sort the bumper for as cheap as he could. He called me later that day to say he had found one on ebay and would fit it himself for nothing. We were over the moon as we were expecting a huge bill. He took the small amount out of our deposit and the rest was sent back to us. The vans themselves are also a step up in comparison to other companies we have used, plates, mugs, cutlery and cleaning equipment are all provided and when we first arrived at Petes all the vans were immaculate. The 4 berth van in particular is out of this world with the white leather furnishings and dark oak finish. Pete and his wife are genuine people running an amazing business that you can see they have a passion for. I would absolutely one hundred percent recommend Hire a Hymer to anyone looking to rent a campervan. There’s not many genuine people left in the world but Pete is one of them. Enjoy the beers we left Pete, they’re deserved mate and apologies once again for the work we caused you!
A fab weekend
We hired Bart as complete novices. Pete was really patient and helpful explaining all possibilities. We had a few issues which were quickly sorted by Pete and we had a fab weekend. Would highly recommend you use these motorhome.
Amazing trip away in a fantastic motorhome ," Barney"
We had such an amazing time away. Barney was everything we ever wanted and more. All we had to take was food, drink and clothes, oh and doggy stuff. Barney was a very sturdy van and handled the nc500 beautifully. We wild camped for 2 weeks with no issues what so ever. Pete the owner was a very friendly guy and very accommodating. Couldn’t recommend Barney enough. Definitely be hiring again.
I would say Pete is the best option for motorhome hire there is. Absolute lovely camper, great guidance and instructions and at the end of the phone if there was any issues.
Slight issue arose and Pete was more than fair with us regarding what had happened.
Would recommend to anybody and will definitely be returning
Just returned from a long weekend in beautiful north Wales, the camper was excellent, clean and had all that we needed. Peter was great and very understanding, explained very well how the caravan worked. I definitively recommend!
We had the best get away
We recently hired a motor home from hire a hymer and we were not disappointed. It was lovely and clean inside had all the utensils. Peter was very friendly and accommodating. He was very flexible with pick up times and drop offs. We had the best get away thanks to hire a hymer would highly recommend.
Hire of Bart
Great motorhome and fantastic customer service from start to end. Would definitely recommend!
Fantastic motorhome and service
Just hired out Bart for Easter weekend, fantastic motorhome and equipped with everything you need. Highly recommend, brilliant company to hire from and lovely motorhome. Thank you so much.
Excellent once again
Can’t rate Pete and his service highly enough. Regular customers and as always spot on!
Fantastic camper hire, very well equipped, Pete couldn’t help us enough very highly recommended.Thankyou very very much.
Motor home Newbies
This was our first time hiring a Hymer motorhome and we didn’t really know what to expect, but it was very straightforward from pick up to drop off, Peter was very helpful and gave us contact details in case we had any questions during our trip through Wales, (we did have a few). We loved Maggie the Hymer, she is built like a bus, totally comfortable and really cosy. So long as you don’t expect to be speeding up any hills or whizzing around tiny country lanes, she drives brilliantly and is just really good fun. By the end of our 10 day holiday Maggie felt like a home from home and we have definitely caught the bug. Thanks to Hire a Hymer for a great experience.
We have rented Hymers from Peter for over 5 years now and always have a great experience. The Hymers are well equipped, clean and reliable and even include tea, coffee and sugar to start you off on your journey. The vehicles are comfortable and spacious even when we have the grandchildren with us. Highly recommended.
Fantastic Time had at Shambala in Much Loved Hymer
We are repeat customers and love these motor-homes. They are so spacious and the old style design is so cool. The interior is both retro and practical with plenty of space to eat sleep and hang out and store all your belongings. Peter and his team are so welcoming and easy going Cant recommend them enough. Thank you for another great week
Great campervan- very comfortable and well equipped. Peter was very friendly and helpful with the booking process and support when I couldn’t work the fridge!! I would highly recommend this company.
Great weekend away in Moe! Sure we’ll use hire a hymer again soon.
First time in a motorhome and was great. The service was excellent and Peter was at the end of the phone if you had any queries.
Very happy customer
First time I have use hirehymer and I was very pleased. Very friendly service and the communication was great. I will definitely use them again and highly recommend them.
First timer 06/2019
First time user, had a few problems but Peter was very helpful, excellent customer service skills, always ready to anwser questions, helpful and understanding
Perfect for a family festival
Peter was so helpful and friendly, moving mountains (and Moes!) to make our trip to the UK for a family festival a success. We adored having Moe for the weekend. Great to drive, super comfortable, with everything a family of four could possibly need. We were the envy of all our friends.
Excellent customer service, helpful staff and well maintained vehicles. Considering this was our first time doing anything like this, we loved every second. The pick up went smoothly with lots of helpful information passed on. The weekend was a huge hit with our children and even my husband enjoyed himself.
From start to finish, my enquiries were answered immediately and professionally. A lovely friendly company to work with who are flexible and accommodating. Great service, I am sure we will be using your company again, when the next 24 hour race comes around!
Really happy to decided to hire Hymer from Peter. He was helpful with few small issue we had. Highly recommend to any one who planing their first experian with campervan.
Fantastic time We hired Gunter as we are considering buying a motorhome and have never used one before, although we have friends with one. Gunter was clean, well maintained and proved easy to drive, OK on fuel at c.30mpg, warm and comfortable with everything we and our 2 Cockapoos needed for our first adventure in a motorhome. Peter was really helpful. We enjoyed it so much we plan on hiring a bigger one for early 2019. Highly recommended.
Trying a Hymer We wanted to try an A class and LHD before buying one, as it seemed a short test drive would be too novel to be informative. How true that turned out! We did settle in though and learned a lot about what we want and dont want. Despite reading other similar reports we were amazed at how well we got on with the LHD. The whole experience couldn’t have been better. The van was solid, started on the button and issued no smoke signals despite us passing 264000kms! Its the end of the season and Maggie is about 25 so you cant expect pristine but she was clean comfortable and everything functioned. Fuel consumption was very reasonable. Hire a Hymer makes the whole process of hiring very relaxed with none of the stress we have experienced with van hires in the past. The only problem now is -do we buy one or just hire one when we want one!
The Best Place to hire I love Hire a Hymer. They realise you’re going camping and as a result are thoughtful about the little things. They include all the things you need. They are relaxed and if you treat the van well, they treat you well. Other friends booked with other Hire companies and even though we were stationary for most of the hiring, they were nervous the whole weekend about things going wrong. We knew if we respected the van, we would be ok on the return. We had Gunter and was a lovely size to drive. Great layout and easy to do all the water, electricity and toilet stuff. The whole experience was marvellous. I highly recommend booking with these guys. They are lovely. If you want posh posh posh then I”m not sure – we didn’t take one of their poshest ones.
Wonderful experience We had the pleasure of hiring Chief Wiggum for 5 days to go to France; the service from Peter was professional, friendly, helpful before during and after we returned. We were able to collect the Hymer a few hours early which really made a difference. It was a wonderful experience!
Gunter’s Scottish trek A group of 3 us lads decided on a trip to Fort William for the Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup. Over a few beers it was decided to go down the Motorhome route. A friend of mine put us on to Pete at Hire a Hymer, and as we lived locally it was perfect location to pick up. We had excellent service from booking up to dropping off. We chose Gunter as it was a bit newer and we planning to do around a 1000 miles over the weekend. The fuel economy was surprisingly good (around 30 odd miles to the gallon), and would cruise along happily at 70 on the motorways. There was everything you needed on board. We made the use of the outside table and chairs, sat under the awning, with Ben Nevis range as our view from the car park. we were lucky with the weather too. Sleeping was comfortable, the shower worked well too. no problems with room. I’m 6ft and didn’t have any issues at all. If you get the chance hire a van. 100% recommend. I shall definitely use again. Highly recommend the A82 route around the lochs and and mountains from GLasgow area around Fort William and back, simply stunning. Thanks Pete for your service. Dom
Great service First time I’ve hired a van and glad I used these guys Pete was very helpful and talked me through the use of the van . These are not new vans but have plenty of character and had everything I needed for 3 of us to have a lovely trip down to Brighton . I have made another booking for 10 days in July to go to Ireland . I travelled down from Coventry and left my car there and took of in Ralph me and the family loved it thanks Pete
Springtime memories with Maggie I thoroughly enjoyed my three weeks holiday in Maggie the Hymer. I’m thinking of buying a motorhome for my retirement and thought it best to hire one first to see if I liked the lifestyle and Hire A Hymer came well recommended so went ahead. Touring solo and an oldish female I was a bit apprehensive but welcomed the challenge of getting to know the workings of a twenty five year old classic van; I immediately felt confident in the ability of the engine, LHD wasn’t the problem I’d thought it would be, I soon got used to it, the gears were a bit awkward, changing with my right arm, it might have been more comfortable with an automatic. I particularly liked the stable door and cooking breakfast in beautiful Spring countryside. Overall it was exciting time learning how to empty the grey water, the cassette toilet and filling with LPG etc…I felt a great sense of achievement at the end of my holiday with Maggie. A big thank you to Peter at Hire A Hymer.
Hired twice from these guys, Peter is a legend, extremely helpful on both occasions. The vans are brilliant and well prepared, coming with everything you need for a fantastic trip. Rock solid and reliable.Have recommend to friends and family and would certainly use again in the future. The vans have plenty of character and are great fun.Very comfortable, providing a great night’s sleep and more than capable on the road.Your given a full run down of the vans on pick up and Peter is more than happy to answer questions on the phone if you need during your travels. We we’re given a free upgrade as one of the two vans we booked was involved in an accident and although just repaired Peter wanted to double check everything before renting it out.Absolute brilliant service, these guys go above and beyond. Many thanks for a great trip and many brilliant memories.
gunter we were very impressed with how helpful Peter and his staff were and being able to pick up early was a great help. this was an experiment to take our two dogs with us and we soon got into a routine especially at bed time. Unfortunately we picked the wettest time of year to tour Scotland so were unable to use the bbq or awning. Gunter drives really well once I got used to a manual gear box. We had one minor set back that the side door lock jammed so had to enter from the front. Overall I would recommend this company for the ease of booking friendly service but if we book again we would need a bigger van.
A great couple of weeks away in Europe in Millhouse. Good fuel consumption. Although left hand drive, easy to drive whilst in Europe. The only complaint I have really is that there was no corkscrew provided.
This was our first rental with Hire-a-Hymer but definitely NOT the last.Over the past 5 years, we have rented a wide range of RV’s from pop-top T5’s to big 6 berth motor-homes. Honestly – this has been the best experience out of the all of our RV holiday rentals. We had, sadly, lost a lot of enthusiasm for motor-homing due to the last 2 rentals. Both brand new, very high spec motor-homes that looked like New York apartments but proved quite uncomfortable, impractical and awkward in day to day use.Lenny, on the other hand was far from new – but absolutely perfect for our Christmas in Norfolk. We are a couple with 2 small dogs.Loads of space in a very clever layout. The weather was very cold this Christmas but we were as cosy as could be with the heating system. Two incredibly comfortable and spacious double beds. We preferred the lounge bed to the pull down bed over the cab seats simply because it was so much bigger, easier to get in and out of and meant we could watch TV. Setting it up was also dead easy. The pull down bed was super comfortable – just the added complexity of climbing up and down a ladder in your 50’s made the lounge bed the easier choice.Everything worked perfectly. Lenny was a great drive. Strong engine a little bit noisy but quickly got used to it. Great visibility including the reversing camera. Dead easy to park. Automatic gearbox a joy. LHD not an issue due to the high seating position. We had sun, rain, hail, snow, high winds – the lot. Nothing was a problem for Lenny.Peter, the owner was most helpful and friendly right from our initial telephone inquiry.Unfortunately, I damaged something internally that I am very annoyed about as it was clumsy on my part. Peter has been a complete gentleman in his response to this breakage.Excited about going for an even bigger Hymer in the Summer from Peter.Highly recommended.
Just a quick note to say that we have had to postpone our hymer hire but Peter was fast to reply to emails and really helpful to resolve the issue. Really great customer service, thanks!
A group of 3 families each hired a Hymer to go to Shambala Festival and it was our best one yet! We go every year and it was such a different experience form our usual camping in a Bell Tent. No carrying stuff. Great comfortable beds, black out blinds so we slept later, and despite the hot wether we were lovely and cool inside the camper. We loved it so much will be hiring again next year.Peter and his team were so helpful and contactable they were very accommodating with a laid back attitude that made the whole experience from start to finish a pleasure. The kids loved it too and thought it was a really cool with the swivel chairs and drop down bed over cab.I can’t recommend highly enough and give it a 10/1
This was our 4th year using hire a hymer and as always thew service was impeccable. We previously hired ned and decided to got a bit bigger this year and went for nelson. Cant beat hire a hymer as their value, quality and service are next to none. We will be back next year. Look forward to seeing you again soon Peter.
We hired Homer for 5 weeks this summer and had a fantastic holiday travelling throughout Ireland and Wales. We really enjoyed staying in Homer and will definitely be hiring again. Peter and the team at Hire a Hymer are really helpful and nothing was too much bother for them. Such a great company to do business with and as I’ve said we will definitely be booking again. Thanks so much for all your help. We loved Homer. It was quite sad to hand him back.
The Best Thing we did
We went to a festival and this changed it completely. We didn’t have to heave our tent through the fields, just drive up. park and party. It gave us so much flexibility and freedom. My husband, daughter and I hired Gunter and we loved him! The shower, heating, toilet and fridge felt like luxury! There was lots of space to keep things too. Also the staff at Hire a Hymer are marvellous. They made us feel really comfortable about hiring Gunter. They expected us to take care of it, obviously but not to the point that we felt nervous being in it. They also gave us a great induction into using it. They were laid back and professional. Hire a Hymer – it’s the best thing you can do – great van, great customer service, great freedom.
My wife, 16 year old daughter and I hired a 6 berth “Chief Wiggum” for 4 days. We had a great time in Wales as our first ever wild style living experience. Peter and Nicki were genuinely helpful beyond imagination. The van may be a little old and tired, but that added to the charm. It was very clean and neatly presented and performed faultlessly. It was absolutely full of every item you might ever need and the whole experience and service from this company was brilliant. Thank you again and we will definitely be back for another hire in future.
We had a great time in Bob. Wish we had discovered motorhoming ten years ago. Great service from Peter and Nicki, very friendly and kind. Do not hesitate if you are thinking about it!
We had a great trip to Wales with lovely Maggie. She was our cosy home for 14 days. The four of us (all adults) loved to travel with her. Easy to drive, cosy ‘livingroom’ and beds. She kept us warm, even in cold nights. We would rent her again or any other hymer. The service was great and easy going. Perfect! 🙂
Hired Bart for a weeks camping trip in Devon. We were lucky enough to be able to pick it up a day early. This meant we were able to pack and start early the next day. No struggling with tent poles with this one. Within 5 minutes of arriving I was sat outside supping a glass of red.The booking and returning process was simple and the staff friendly and helpful. Coupled with this place being up the road from me it was a no brainer. Will definately use again.
Sideshow Bob at the Grand Prix!
Once again, we took Sideshow Bob to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. This is our second year with Bob and we were not disappointed. The team at Hire a Hymer could not be more helpful, from booking and changing date to last minute finding me an oven, nothing was too much trouble for them. Bob was great, he had everything we needed (even down to matches to light the hob!) and very comfy as usual. Immaculately clean and above and beyond what i call fully equipped made for a very comfy week away! Thanks Pete and the team, we will be seeing you again for GP2018
Bart to the borders
We hired Bart to go to Herefordshire/Wales borders for 4/5days.As first time motorhome hirers (and the first time away ‘camping’ with a baby), we were slightly nervous for how it would all work out. But Peter and Sian couldn’t have been more helpful and patient with all our questions. We had an incredible trip away in Bart. Definitely big enough (without being one of the bigger vans) – I’m tall and could walk around everywhere inside with no problems at all. Two large beds, very comfy inside.Everything worked perfectly – it drove like a dream, had anything we could need (BBQ/table/chairs etc).It made for a lovely calm trip away. We’ll definitely be returning to hire another one (or Bart, again) very soon. Thanks again!
Silverstone and Bart
Had 4 great nights in Bart at Silverstone F1 weekend. Just what was needed. Very comfotable, clean and well equiped. Didn’t need electric hook up the solar panel did its job. We would highly recommend hireahymer.
Sideshow Bob does Glastonbury !
Had a brilliant Glastonbury, thanks to Sideshow Bob!Plenty of room and all the mod cons, three big fellas needed. Everything worked perfectly, the leisure battery lasted all week, and the beds really were very comfortable, much better than our soaking wet tents the year before.Great friendly service from Pete and the team at Hire a Hymer. Every silly little question we had was fully answered and always really quickly, even on a Sunday! All of us would highly recommend Hire a Hymer, and I am sure we will hire from them again. Thank you.
Edna @ Le Mans 2017
We hired Edna to take to the Le Mans 24 hour 2017. What a fantastic motorhome she was. Faultless on the long drive there and back, simple to use, comfortable for 5 grown men, excellent facilities including a shower and hob. The leisure battery lasted the long weekend with no issues. The customer service at Hire a Hymer was great with a comprehensive handover and Edna being clean with no faults. Highly Recommended. I’ll be returning next year with Edna 🙂
Will be booking again!
Can’t fault the service, outstanding in every way. The communication throughout the booking process and picking up the van was perfect. The van (Bart) was in great condition, everything worked as expected. Returned a healthy 28mpg on the 900 mile round trip to Le Mans 24hr. Very comfortable beds, comfy seats, cold fridge. What more could 4 guys want from a home on wheels.Pete made the effort to meet us early on drop off day so I could get straight into work, really appreciated it, save me half a days holiday. Will be booking again for sure.
Brilliant from start to finish
What a great service. We had Nelson for a 3 night break – our first time in a motorhome – unfortunately now I’m hooked, but can’t afford to buy one.Very friendly service from Sian, who showed us round and made sure we knew which buttons to press, etc.Nelson is about 24 yrs old, but you wouldn’t believe it on the inside – everything still works superbly and he was very clean and a pleasure to live in for our all-too-brief few days.Unsurprisingly, motorways are no longer his thing and he makes quite a noise about it (well, wouldn’t you?!), but on the country lanes of the Peak District, he clearly enjoyed himself and so did we, rolling along, enjoying the scenery and the incredible sense of freedom.Really well equipped, with plenty of pots, pans, crockery, etc.Half way home, daughter realised she’d left her lucky bracelet on one of the shelves – texted Sian, who had it posted within moments – THANK YOU.All in all, a fantastic service.
Fantastic Customer Service
Peter and his customer service is second to none! After a long flight arriving from Denver, Colorado we were badly let down by an independent guy that was hiring out his Rapido motorhome called Bumblebee.Peter just saved our vacation. He loaned us Homer at such short notice and we had a brilliant time. We travelled to the Midlands and then down South to Weymouth and Hampshire. Homer performed beautifully. Spacious and everything went without a hitch.Peter we just can not thank you enough for making a trip that could have been very expensive and disastrous to a really memorable time.Thank you.
We hired Homer for a long weekend break to The Geronimo Festival in Cheshire. We found the booking process really easy and the check in friendly and relaxed. The motorhome was clean, superbly equipped with great attention to detail. Great experience and would return or recommend. Thank you Ivor, Tina
Gunter the Van
We hired Gunter for a family Easter break to the south coast. I found the process of booking and collecting the vehicle straight forward and the run through when we picked up the camper was extremely helpful. The van was clean and fully equipped and comfortably catered for our family of 4. All in all I would have no issue with referring friends and family and we are already planning our next trip.
Although the owners were away when we picked up the van, the video they sent was very informative. The van was extremely well equipped with everything we needed and was warm and comfortable. We would definitely use them again Thanks Tony for the review – sorry we were away but we all like a holiday sometimes 🙂
Superb excellence throughout.
We have used Hireahymer on six occasions and each time the service is utterly superb, with a variety of vans each having fabulous facilities that cater for our every need. Peter and his team ensure that the standard of cleanliness is outstanding throughout and his personal touch enables us to liaise collection and return times: amazing professional care. From the second we book (also an easy process) we know we are in safe hands and the staff are there to guide us if necessary. I highly recommend this company if you want a first class service in a camper van. We have always travelled around Europe and the vans are very spacious and fully equipped to meet our indoor and outdoor needs plus from a driver’s point of view they hold any road – no matter the width. We can’t wait to collect Chief Wiggum on Friday as we used him for three weeks in the summer; France here we come. Thanks Peter for making our holidays easy from the beginning to the end. A super team and we are loving your vans. Mark and Michele
10 days in and around the South West with Lenny:Had a fantastic trip with Lenny and couldn’t fault anythingLenny was well equipped, spotlessly clean, and very well maintained. Pete gave a full walk through and demo before we left so I also had no fears, questions or concerns during the trip.Pete and the team are friendly and helpful, and were an absolute pleasure to deal with.Definitely recommending to all my friends and family,Emma
Trip to Scotland in Bart
We had an amazing experience in Bart. We travelled up to Scotland stopping at the Peak District and West Lakes on the way. Bart was just what we needed as a family of four (2 adults and 2 children under 12). Bart was really well equipped (including tea and coffee for our journey), he was clean and had everything we you could want for the journey. The children loved the travelling as they could sit at the table and play and they also liked getting into the drop down bed. The team at HireAHymer were so relaxed and really helpful throughout the booking, planning, collection, during the journey and upon our return – as first time motorhomers we were nervous but we were made to feel at ease and settled to life on the open road very quickly. We shall be booking again with HireAHymer!! Thanks for your review and very glad you had a great holiday.
Our camper van “Ned” 4/5 berth, although a little dated, worked perfectly throughout our 4 day trip. Everything we needed and more was already on-board. Crockery, cutlery, pans (including utensils and decent kitchen knives for food prep) matches, firelighters, a small BBQ, camping chairs and even the cleaning cleaning equipment ! Couldn’t fault anything. Would recommend to anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable family motor home. We’ll DEFINITELY be using HyerAHymer again next year. Thanks Guys ! The Hitchins
Italian road trip
We are family of 4 and took Lenny to Italy. As 1st timers at this Lenny was a good size and made travelling around Europe very easy. For a old boy he (Lenny not the driver) drove really well. We want to do it again but next in a bigger motor home.
Just got back from a week with Sideshow Bob at F1 British Grand Prix. What a great old boy he is, the separate shower was great and Bob himself was soooo comfortable. Peter could not have been more helpful, from the initial enquiries right down to the day we returned Bob, brilliant service – nothing too much trouble. Bob was well equipped, well maintained and immaculately clean. The demonstration when we collected him was spot on – all the information we needed to make this a really stress free, easy holiday, Thanks guys! Already booked our tickets for next year, just waiting for dates to be confirmed and will be seeing you again next year for sure
Took Bumblebee to the South Coast and Love Supreme. Paul and Sara were super helpful and the vehicle was excellent. A pleasure to deal with, thank you
I’ve just celebrated my 50th in Roxy going around Norfolk. Such a helpful and accommodating company! Could not have asked for any more, flexibility, helpfulness and easy to deal with people from the first pint of contact all the way through to handing back they keys. The van is clean and easy to drive, beds are comfy and everything works. Will certainly be back!
Best ever festival
We have been going to Download festival for years, always camping. I thought we would treat ourselves and hire a motorhome this yeasr. My god it’s so much better than being in a tent, especially as the weather was terrible. We hired Selma for a week and she was superb. What a great old girl, all the comforts you could wish for and really easy to drive. Definitely going to do it again next year with Hireahymer, excellent value and service, a great company and people. Well recommended..
We have just returned from an amazing wedding and honeymoon adventure, which we shared with the fabulous Ralph! What an awesome motorhome he was for us! 2 adults, a 5 year old and 2 medium dogs, the hardest part was giving him back!A brilliant journey starting in the Lake District, followed by the west coast of Scotland, 4 islands, up to John O’Groats and Dunnet Head, and back down the east coast, all in 3 and a half weeks! (Oh, and our wedding in amongst it all)!Thank you so so much to the team at Hire a Hymer for providing us with such a clean, well maintained motorhome, and making our wedding adventure so perfect, will definitely be using these guys again!Big thanks, from the Hardy Family 🙂
Adventures With Maggie!
We just got back from 31 fantastic days travelling Western Europe with Maggie. She was perfect for our family of 4 (My wife and I, and two boys 6 and 9 years old.) Our Pop up truck camper was getting small for us and we loved the space that Maggie provided both on the road as we homeschooled the boys and when we found one of our many incredilbe campsites usually using Pete’s recommendations with the ACSI card or Searchforsites.co.uk. Searchforsites is a fantastic website especially if you like to wildcamp (i.e camp for free : ) which we did about half of our trip, many times ending up in lovely remote locations on rivers and lakes with nobody around. Wether we were exploring the cities of Paris and Segovia or the gorgeous countryside of Southern France we could always count on Maggie to manueuver us down a narrow road and at night provide us a comfortable place to sleep. She was our home away from home and we’re definitely going to miss her. Once we get back to the States we’re trading in the Pop-up and looking for a Hymer that reminds us of Maggie. Thanks Pete for everything, it was truly the trip of a lifetime. Until our next adventure, The Dahlen Family Luke – a pleasure. So glad you had a great time.
we hired a 6 berth motor home from your depot in pottersbury near milton keynes this was for our honeymoon and we where most impressed by the service we rec from peter and his staff the motor home was clean reliable as we travelled north and south wales also up to blackpool then the lakes followed by the peak district finnishing in oxfordshire we was very impressed by everything about the motorhome once again thanks peter and staff we will be back Terry, so glad you had a great time.
We booked and paid up for a bank holiday weekend hire. Due to circumstances beyond our control we had to cancel 8 days prior. We were told that the van was not re-let (even though the website showed it was!) and there was not a penny refunded. They told us the van was used instead, by their own family. We will never use this company again.
Response from Hire A Hymer
Thanks for your review. I am very sorry that your planned event got cancelled. As I explained to you at the time of cancellation we would do our best to rehire the motorhome for your dates. If we were successful I would have given you a complete refund but alas due to the short notice, we were unable to fill the vacancy. Yes I let my niece take the motorhome for 1 night as there were no bookings on the motorhome. I also offered to transfer your £150 to another booking but you rejected this offer.. As I also explained that as a company we are not in a position to get insurance for missed bookings, as I made clear most personal travel insurance policies should cover this. Again sorry for your loss but we both entered the contract in good faith.
Four of us rented Homer
Four of us rented Homer and drove to the Alps and back for our first ever motorhome trip. We skied 6 days in 4 different countries and ski resorts thanks to the flexibility he offered us. Homer was ‘bombproof’ and kept us toasty warm in sub-zero temperatures. Pete and Phil went to extra lengths to help us be confident in the Alps. It was a great adventure and we all want to do the same next year. Thanks so much guys ! We’ve now got our beady eyes on your grandaddy of a MH – Snowball, if we can persuade you to put winter tyres on him 😉 Glad you had a great adventure Jason – we will see about snow boots for Snowball 🙂
We had a fantastic time in Bumblebee, thanks Paul for preparing her for our travels. We had lots of adventures and my desire has been fuelled for getting my own now!
Festival No. 6 in Portmeirion was fantastic – but this is all about the motorhome…..SMITHERS was the star of the show! Easy to book, friendly and flexible service, well equipped and maintained vehicle. All in all it was just what we wanted – I’m too old for muddy
Ned Is Okily Dokily!!!
We hired Ned for 3 nights this year (last year also) for a weekend at santapod and as always it was superb. Phil and Pete are great guys, very helpful and informative. As soon as we have the dates for next years event we will be right back hiring a hymer off you guys again. See you soon!
Just like to thank A hymer and Paul for makeing our holiday a Great succsess and a wanderful adventure. We traveled to the peak district and the Lakes with little effort.I will be hiring again and booking the van for a longer holiday. Thanks again Paul and Ahymer
We hired Ned for a 5 day mini trip down south to tour the coast from Salcombe up to Sand backs, pitt stopping at Durdle door and Lulworth cove along the way. Without a doubt – the best holiday ever – and that single handedly was down to our choice of transport. Ned didn’t fail to disappoint – totally reliable, comfy and of course being super vintage and cool!Left hand drive and bizarre gearbox was a bit daunting at first but you quickly acclimatize to it.I think we pleasantly surprised Pete and Phil by being able to survive the trip and bring the Hymer back in one piece!!Highly recommend it to anyone wanting a a memorable trip and we are already planning the Euro Hymer time trip for 2016!We are always delighted to see our customers come back with large smiles on their faces – we are just as delighted to our motorhomes come back in one piece 🙂 Glad you had a great trip.
Ned does Europe
The 4 of us took Ned round 7 countries (England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and Italy) in just 16 days. Travelling a total of 3426 miles Ned held out extremely well no trouble at all, making our holiday a fantastic experience.Pete and Phil were fantastic from the word go, from altering our dates for us after booking, too cleaning Ned beautifully before pick up and explaining exactly how everything worked. We went for the extra box and bike rack on the back which were very useful! We had an amazing time will definitely Hire a Hymer again!
a trip to France
We hired Smithers for 2 weeks in August. Pete and Phil of hire a hymer are some of the nicest and helpful blokes you could ever want to meet. The old hymer was cleaned to within an inch of its life before pick up, the old girl behaved impeccably for 2200km, she ain’t fast but it don’t matter that much. Great MPG for a big girl. They allowed me to fabricate and take a scooter rack to fit to the back which is an astonishing service. We had a fabulous time taking in le-mans, the mountains and national parks of the centre of France, then up to Paris to visit the palace of Versailles.highly recommended.THANK YOU SO MUCH PETE AND PHIL
Great van and superb service
We hired Nelson to go to a 4 day festival. We found the service offered both professional and very helpful, explaining the eccentricities of vintage Hymers in a sensible, useful manner. The van behave immaculately for us and we thoroughly enjoyed using him. Thanks guys for the help and service, helped make a great long weekend for us.
Hired a 6 birth Hymer motorhome for our trip to the Tour de France. Friendly and efficient service on pickup and van was comfortable and well equipped. Helpful with advice, maps and camping sites in France. Nice to deal with a company with no hidden costs.Would highly recommend.
Oh Lenny, we love you
Four girls in the wonderful Lenny for Glastonbury. What an adventure!! The girls who were driving were a bit nervous beforehand, but after a few minutes they were right as rain. Peter and all the hire-a-hymer guys were fantastic, and helped out when I couldn’t get the fridge working when we actually got to glasto. I was amazed at how comfy it was to sleep in Lenny. It was fun cooking inside too. The only drawback was having to empty the cassette toilet, but we took it in turns and it was a small price to pay for a fab week. Pleasure – very glad you had a great time 🙂
BoB took us to - Silverstone!
Just got back from a great weekend at Silverstone…1st time renting a Hymer Phil, Pete
Smithers does Silverstone
Just got back from Silverstone today after camping since Thursday. Last year me and my bro took a transit T4 on hire but then we found hireahymer and i’m so glad we did, 12 miles away from the circuit , friendly staff , everything you need , we had an electric hook up but the power supply did go off a few times though we only noticed cos other people told us , as everything was still working off the leisure battery. Hireahymer is our first choice for our next Silverstone visit or for any other jaunt come to that, would highly recommend them
Smithers does Glasto!
From the very start of the booking process to the handover by two Glasto weary souls, everything was perfect!Smithers looked after us very well, from the second we rocked up to be shown the ropes, through to the long drive to get there..then every late night when we fell through the door to every early morning when we fumbled with the shower…Smithers was totally amazing.Everything is considered…down to the USB links so we could charge our phones in the muddy field and the connector which meant we had great tunes from our playlist all the way there and back! This was our first Hymer experience and we would definitely book with you guys again. Smithers did an amazing job from start to finish! There were many admiring glances from fellow festival goers over the weekend and I have a feeling that next year you will be overwhelmed with Hymer requests for Glasto. Not sure if it was Smithers’ first time at Glasto but I’m sure it won’t be the last.thanks guys:-)
This was our third year in a row with Hire a Hymer. And next year will be our fourth.I just can’t fault these guys for their pragmatic approach and friendly and helpful nature. This year we had 5 campers in total – 4 Hymers and one ‘modern’ one – we arranged an early collection and after the necessary handover process (which we’re getting pretty good at) off we went! The campers are not the MOST luxurious you will see but they DO have the most character, and are great to drive. They have pretty much everything you need for a festival or holiday.I’m not going to wax lyrical too much about them – I want to make sure we’ve booked for 2016 before I do that!Don’t hesitate to use these guys if you are looking for a brilliant motorhome full of charm and character, at a reasonable price and with top class support from the Hire a Hymer base!Cheers Pete
Great motor home
What a great motor home, well equipped, spotlessly clean and a great drive, it is an older van so it does need driving but that gives it it’s extra pleasure. The guys at base are really nice, very professional and approachable and friendlyA great company to use if you want to hire, 5Star…. Mark
First Hymer experience
We have just retuned from a brilliant break in France in “Maggie” a classic Hymer.Just to reassure you these Hymers might be 20 years old but after 5 minutes of driving I would happily drive all over europein it they are clean and warm and so easy to drive ,much better than an old vw. if you’re reading this review book one now you wont regret it and you too will have “miles with smiles”
Family holidayGreat van, great holiday, great company to deal with, would hire again.
Missing Magnificent Maggie
Spent a week in Scotland during April and experienced what felt like the worst weather in Scottish history which included snow and gale force winds. You can’t rely on the weather but we could rely on Maggie and was one of the best holidays we have ever had. Maggie was an excellent vehicle, reliable, comfortable, well equipped and very warm and cosy. The service from Hire A Hymer was also first class and we are already planning our next motorhome holiday (and yes it will be with Hire A Hymer).
We hired “Lisa” for a long weekend as my son was sailing in a competition on the south coast. Lisa was great, had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The “Hirea Hymer” team are very helpful and friendly. Lisa is a classic so a little noisy but that just meant we turned up the music volume and sang very loudly. We had a great trip and I know I will be nagged by my children to hire again for future sailing weekends. I drove over 400 miles and even as a “woman driver” had no problem with the size, LHD or manual gearbox (normally drive an automatic). Excellent x
Living the deam!
We hired nelson for a long weekend in February and loved it so much that on Monday we’re flying to Germany to buy one!Even our 15 year old son, who’s normally way too cool to holiday with parents, loved the adventure! Great friendly, hassle free pick up
We have just returned from a 7 night road trip in Otto the 1994 Hymer s660…Hire a Hymer is a very professional setup and I cannot fault the service from picking up Otto on Friday afternoon to reluctantly having to part with the keys on Saturday. The handover from Phil was very comprehensive and left me fully briefed for a trouble free holiday. I found trhe driving experience utterly brilliant but don’t expect driving one of these classic motorhomes to be like driving a modern van as you will be left disappointed, what you get is an old but willing merc diesel that pulls all day long at a reasonable pace and if required and the correct gear is selected will pull you up the steepest of gradients with ease and cruises on the motorway between 60-70 without a problem. We encountered some fairly narrow lanes around the Gower Peninsula and once you are used to the dimensions of the Hymer there are no problems. Everything you need whilst away is provided (bedding at extra cost) and we cooked both breakfast and Dinner every night and wanted for nothing. The available storage is amazing with a reasonable wardrobe and lots of cupboards. The beds are very comfortable,we used the pull down ‘over cab’ bed and found plenty of room for two decent sized adults and our 2yr old had a whole double bed to herself at the back of the van, no complaints from her!During our week on a couple of nights the temperature dropped to around freezing so we left the heater on low which kept the van at a nice comfortable temperature. Carbon Monoxide detectors are fitted should you have any concerns. The engine returned over 25mpg our trip consisting of country lanes, hills and motorway which I think is excellent for the size and age of the unit. In all a super holiday and we will be booking again…..Thank you Otto and Hire a Hymer
we love Lenny!
We borrowed Lenny for three nights to see if we liked motorhoming.we loved it! going from tents to caravans to motorhomes and we found that it was a dream, we loved the fact that we could turn up and plug in and relax! Lenny was lovely and we will be doing it again…
Retirement trip in Selma
We hired Selma for a three week retirement trip in Scotland, with a stop at Lindisfarne en route. We had a great time with one breakdown(fan belt). However this gave us a chance to visit Kelso. Fault was fixed within a hour or so by Ednam Autos after being directed there by HireAHymer, and off we went again, visiting Stirling, Oban and a tour round Loch Lomond. We were very comfortable and trickled along at 50 mph, but covered over a thousand miles all together. We have since been looking for a van, but nothing seems to compare with old Hymers. They are solid and dependable, and we would thoroughly recommend HireAHymer.
Just do it!
Spent a wonderful month in France, 2 couples sharing the same camper. Crazy many would say but Bob offered plenty of space and comfort. Not the fastest machine on the road but who want to stick to motorways when there is so much to see. The service received from Pete was fantastic
First of many to come
Well where to start, first time in a motorhome, and it was absolutely fantastic, we drove up to Scotland and ended up in durness, it was an amazing idea, the hymer had everything you could imagine you need, the views in Scotland were amazing, the whole holiday went without a hitch, the only issue we had was that we didn’t book longer, we booked ralph out for 6 days but still managed to cover 1500 miles, and mpg was amazing on something like that, we got about 350-500 miles per tank, less in Scotland because of all the hills. Can’t wait to book again, thank you all at hire a hymer. see you soon!!!
Just come back from possibly my favourite holiday ever. We hired Marge and took her on a whirlwind 1300 mile tour of the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Mull. Every day was an adventure, every minute spent behind the wheel was a dream. (Apart from the minute where I backed her into a pokey tree branch, but Phil and Pete were brilliant about it.)I’d recommend Hymers in general and this company in particular to anyone and everyone – the service was fantastic, the vehicle gave us no trouble at all even on steep hills and narrow roads, and we’ll definitely be repeat customers.(If you’ve bothered to read this far I’ll reward you with a top tip: get yourself a book on “wild swimming” and chase down some of the loveliest most secluded spots only the locals would know about, all over the country. You don’t have to swim, just park up and cook or relax in beautiful unspoilt countryside, way off the beaten track, with waterfalls or streams gurgling in the background!)
Late summer in the Lakes
We hired Blinky for an end of summer holiday with the kids up in the Lake District. This is the second time we’ve hired Blinky and he didn’t disappoint. Pete had him ready for us to go and a quick refresher on all the gadgets and we were off. The kids (5 and 8) had a whale of a time even when we were caught up in the bank holiday traffic on the M6 as they could carry on playing their games at the table. The weather was fantastic and being able to hop from campsite to campsite without lots of packing up tents and awnings was brilliant. Thanks Blinky, Thanks Pete and we’ll be back for more adventures I suspect 🙂
Kiwis in Scotland
Everything about our 20 day tour of Scotland was fantastic. nothing was too much trouble for Peter to make our trip enjoyable (including portable wifi) Van performed without any problems at all.
2nd year taking a Hymer to V Festival
From London Heathrow, its a UKP60 taxi ride to the HireaHymer pickup point. We hired a Hymer last year to go to music festivals, and we were so impressed we did the same this year too. These lovely campers are maintained to a high standard and very well kitted out. We had 6 adults, in 3 mega comfy double beds, there is tons of room. Way better than using a tent and much better value than a B
fantastic from start to finish!!!!
fantastic set up from start to finish, could not fault the experience we had dealing with peter even if i tried , the motorhome was superb and kitted out with everything you could need , will be back again next year for the moto gp and i have no problem saying i will be dealing with this company again ,i would strongly recommend them to anyone, special mention to peter again , top class mate and thanks for the lift!!!
First time with a motorhome. Toured Ireland Scotland 2 adults 4 children. Blinky didn’t miss a beat and the beds were very comfortable. Fuel economy was much better than expected. Pick up and return were excellent and Peter gave a good and clear explanation of the equipment. Very friendly hassle free company.
Millhouse goes lakes
Website is perfect with updated information (photos of motor homes are real and updated – WYSIWYG) easy to book through.Peter and his team were very welcoming and service oriented. The Millhouse was fully equipped and well maintained. We had great family time and we warmly recommend HireAHymer for everybody.
My first Music Festival and first time driving a camper. everything was brilliant. Nelson easy to drive, accommodation super, grandchildren loved the Bunk, Cant fault it.
Love at first site
We love going to music festivals but have always stayed in nearby B
Superb in every way
South of france with disco stu
Great time with disco stu travelling to south of france ardeche with us and to kiddies 10 and 7.travelled 1600 miles in to weeks. After arriving at calais we had two espressos to set us off, stopped at chateaudun Aire site (free) for a night then to moulin Aire the next day, site 2.40 euros a night for secure campsite. Onto vallon pont darc in the ardeche for 9 nights,Kayaked 24 km, ate in lovely restaurants and also ate in Stu, played cards during storms and he never let us down. The beds were so comfy and the van is so well equipped. After 9 nights we headed back on the east side of france stopping at Dijon aire site then le parcq near calais. If your expecting quick journey them this isn’t for you, but, if you want to take in the scenery then he is perfect. He is so well equipped with cutlery, tea towels. Pots and pans to name a few and he is so reliable. Pete and Phil are so helpful and ensure you have everything for your adventure… Hannah, Bert, Billy and Ella :-))
Selma the love of my life
To say we had a great time is an understatement. Selma never missed a beat and helped us enjoy our camp bestival experience and holiday in Dorset no end. Peter and the team were excellent and 100% helpful to a first time camper van family. Same time next year Peter/Selma
Hymer adventure to Devon
We rented Sideshow Bob for a few days trip to South Devon in May.It was a real adventure for us but great fun. Loads of room and very comfy beds for two tall adults and two lanky teenagers. Pete and Phil were very helpful and so laid-back regarding the checking-in and return, it was a pleasure! We were very impressed with the kit provided, matches and everything had been thought of…so thoughtful. We found it surprisingly economical on the diesel but quite a slow drive, you have to sit back and just take your time in a classic Hymer 🙂 Had some hair-raising moments in the narrow Devon lanes but you do get respect from other road-users! We’d definitely recommend Hire-a-Hymer 100%
10 Night Adventure to France
For 2 adults
Nelson to Normandy
100% the best
With Potter's Night Bus through Devon
The least officious car hire ever!Pete and his mate, who seemed to be available anytime whatsoever, were so friendly and generous – they really wanted to look after us! When I had knocked the bumper off backing into a stone wall, they didn’t get upset at all, fixed it easily and didn’t charge for it…What they don’t tell you: Nelson’s grandmother was Stanley Turnpike’s legendary Nightbus: you can squeeze through one lane roads with a flatbed truck coming your way!!!
I would highly recommend these guys to anyone. Fantastic price, fantastic service and really helped make a great weekend at the British Grand Prix unforgettable.Great induction to the vehicle, easy to drive and look after to. Would happily uses this company and also would highly recommend Lenny the Hymer too!
We hired Selma from Pete for the Silverstone weekend. It was handy to be able to pick it up so close to silverstone . The team at hire a hymer couldn’t have been better. Everything we needed was in the motorhome. We are now motorhome converts
Classic Le Mans
Had a great week in France including the “Classic Le Mans”. HAH and Disco Stu did us proud. Very relaxed approach by Pete
Weekend at Silverstone
Hired Horatio for a long weekend at Silverstone which was fantastic. Peter at HAH was first class in his approach and relaxed nature with regards to the entire hiring experience. Vehicle was in excellent condition and everything worked perfectly over the four days. We took the vehicle back slightly earlier than expected which was no problem and our car was there waiting for collection. Would highly recommend hiring a motorhome classic or modern from Peter and his team, everything you could think of was included in the vehicle which made things even more enjoyable. Hope to see you again next year !
I would highly recommend Hire A Hymer. Knew friends that used them last year which encouraged us to use them. Excellent service. Very helpful. And… Easy to drive. A lot of companies could learn a lesson in customer service from these folks. Well done!!! ????
Great rental at IoW Festival
We hired Maggie for the Isle of Wight festival – first camper van experience and all good. Great service from the team at HireaHymer – we had to call with query on electrics and they were very helpful, no problem at all. Definitely will be back.
CORNBURY MUSIC FESTIVAL 2014 (3rd time in a row)
Once again a big thank you to Peter and the team for letting the family Filleul take Nelson to Cornbury. These Hymers are just a wonderful relaxing way to enjoy a few days away. Even how it works and what all the knobs and switches do were all explained. A brilliant weekend (again) and we will be back again next year. Love you all.
This was the second year that we used Hire a Hymer for Download Festival. Hire a Hymer were once again brilliant from beginning to end – we were able to arrange a flexible, early collection from them as the vans weren’t out the night before. They are really easy to drive, and for their size, pretty easy to manoeuvre.Everything worked perfectly (and as we were a bit more seasoned with it being our second time with them, we knew what we were doing a little more!)We only had one reason to call ‘base’ for a query on the electrics, and once again Peter was really helpful in providing assistance. We returned the vans, collected our cars, transferred our gear and off we went – so simple! And our deposits were returned in full and very promptly.I don’t want to sing their praises too highly as I want to make sure there are Hymers still available for us for Download 2015!Good work guys, and huge thanks.Graham
To Le Mans with Lisa (oh and the wife)
The 3 of us, Lisa, my wife and myself went through Normandy, and down to Le Mans and back without any problem, including 750 kms in a single day. Lisa has character to spare, and never played up or was difficult, which as newbie’s to camper vanning was much appreciated. We enjoyed ourselves immensely, and the benefits of driving a LHD camper on the Continent is immeasurable. Pete was a pleasure to deal with, I don’t think I’ve ever hired any vehicle with less hassle. Thks Pete, see you next time.
An oasis of calm in a very muddy Bearded Theory Festival field. Bart did us proud providing a pleasant environment. He allowed us to suffer the weathers slings and arrows in comfort – and hauled us out where most others had to wait for a tow out. We shall return. The HaH team are lovely peeps to do business with to boot.
First class holiday
Pretty much like the last review really, I know that these guys will sort out any niggles for future users. Nothing that caused us any great drama’s. We had a perfect time, 4 sites in 6 nights. I loved driving the vehicle and we both found the drop down comfortable. Possibly an addition of silver screens for the cab would be a good idea, as the early morning light was waking us up at 4 and 5 o clock. Or is that the idea. The whole experience was fun, beginning to endWe have some screens hiding away – I will put them in the vans.Glad you had a great time.
We hired Lisa for a three night break , she’s a bit worn but that only added to the enjoyment. The drop down bed is super comfy and the van was clean and had plenty of storage. We would definitely hire again. Thanks to the friendly staff for making our first Hymer adventure a great one
Our UK and Europe holiday
Wow.Peter at Hire a Hymer ,was so patient and helpful to us when we were planning our big holiday from New Zealand. We emailed back and forth so much,Peter answered every query and offered more info when we picked up Smithers the 6.6 Hymer.Smithers served us well around Europe and Uk never missed a beat.Very comfortable to drive and the beds great too,had all the comforts from home. For 6 weeks our home away from home.Highly recommend Peter and his team and the reliable Hymers to give you a Holiday to remember. Thanks Heaps From the Dean Family
Marge The Barge
We booked Otto for 19 days for our first holiday in England. Everything went smoothly, without any problem with MH.The owner Peter was more than helpfull and kind. ;-)We highly recommend renting his motorhomes. We would gladly use his services again and we’ll recommend them to our friends in Slovenia! Peter, thank you very much for all your taxi services. Take care, Maya
Hooked on Hire
We persuaded ourselves to hire a motorhome before buying one.Maggie absorbed a tremendous amount of luggage and all out of sight. The visibility for road or views is great. She was surprisingly easy to manoevre even without a rear view camera and was a great workhorse – remembering of course to allow longer for a long journey! She’s comfortable at night and the drop-down bed is huge with plenty of sit-up height.A couple of niggles knocked off the 5th rating star, but they were of little consequence set against our enjoyment of the hire. Thanks to Pete and Hire a Hymer, we are now hooked on hire rather than purchase and are looking forward to our next adventure.
We booked Marge for a week away in the UK as we’d been considering buying a Hymer and wanted to try before we took the plunge.Pete emailed us a few days before we were due to collect to ask if we wanted to collect early which suited us very well. We were also able to return the van later by arrangement. The reception on arrival was friendly and Pete was extremely helpful – giving me a hand to load our bikes onto the rack etc. He took us through the main features of the van and answered our questions clearly and patiently.Everything which we needed for our holiday was supplied with the van. We chose to cook most evenings and the pans, utensils and crockery were all good quality and in good condition. The built in extractor fan above the hob was very effective. All features of the van were in full working order and in good condition for it’s age.The legendary Hymer over cab double bed was fantastic. Even at 6′ 2″ I could stretch out in comfort and we slept like logs. Set up and put away time was only 2 minutes. We found all of the “utilities” – hook up and water etc to be straightforward and easy to manage. The driving experience is best described as leisurely, but you soon get used to a slightly slower pace and the high driving position and massive windscreen gives excellent visibility all round.I’m used to driving larger vehicles (and left hand drive) so the size wasn’t a problem…We loved the freedom to get up and go in 10 minutes and the ability to park up somewhere and make lunch conveniently after a walk.In short we had a fantastic time on our Hymer-holiday and were sad to leave Marge at the end of the trip.
Fantastic new experience!
Honestly very friendly, helpful and kind staff. Little problem with the heating, but I will definitely recommend and will hire again from them!!!
Holiday in France
We hired the Hymer for 2 weeks in February 2014 and headed across to Le Harve. We then had 2 weeks of fun and relaxation, stopping on a camp site for 3 days and the rest of the time in Aires (Excellent places to stop overnight and free, these were recommended by Peter). The service provided by Hire a Hymer was second to none, friendly and efficient and we have recommended them to our friends.
A week in Norfolk
My wife and I decided to hire ‘Lenny’ as a dry run prior to purchasing our own van … We like the classic styling of the hymer range; so HireAHymer was the obvious place to go 8-)The van was all kitted out with the essentials needed for a successful road trip including outdoor table/chairs, BBQ, cutlery, crockery and utensils. This made packing very easy
Just a quick note to say thank you to Peter and John, we had another fabulous weekend with HERB at the Cornbury Music Festival. Nick and all the family. See you next year!
After hiring a nearly-new motorhome earlier in the year and feeling somewhat underwhelmed by the quality and lack of character, we became aware of the classic Hymer as an affordable but highly characterful way into motorhome ownership. Before making any decision, we stumbled across Peter at Hire a Hymer and rented the characterful Otto. We’ve got to admit that it took seconds to realise just how good these old Hymer’s are. Couple that with Peter’s infectious enthusiasm and pragmatic approach, it was a fantastic and very pleasurable experience for us to hire Otto. We couldn’t fault the vehicle or the service. Just good, down-to-earth help, customer service and a well presented motorhome that worked perfectly.Yes, of course we’d hire from Hire a Hymer again! And we have already recommended them to friends who have been equally delighted.Like I said, bloody great!
Motorhomes not that clean and was very tired looking very noisy to drive not much power and very juicy, had to fix a couple of items for them to work although never did get tv working or hot water. Couldn’t hear radio or passenger talking when driving due to noise from engine. Nice chaps but little customer service seemed all about the money than the service. Sorry guys not going to recommend poor service.
Response from Hire A Hymer
Steve thanks for your feedback and we are very sorry that our motorhome did not meet your expectations. Our motorhomes are not brand new and we do not try to hide that fact. They were made in an age when manufacturers thought more about quality than refinement. They are not as quiet as a modern motorhome but most people have found them to be very economic for their size and shape. From what I remember you were in a great hurry and did not want a full induction. (this may reflect your economy and the issue of cabin noise). You also did not contact us once about any issues you experienced – I checked the motorhome on your return and the TV and hot water did work but it seems you did not know how to work them. Yes the carpet could have been cleaner and we have spoken to our cleaning staff about this issue. Finally I can assure you we do pride ourselves on our customer service and our service it not ‘all about the money’. If you had contacted us before your return you may have seen that. Also I recommend that next time you find the time to take the full induction as it may improve your holiday.
Hire a Hymer......avoid like the plague!
Rip off merchants! Hire a Hymer……avoid like the plague! When we picked the motorhome up the carpet was stained, the door was open and it wasn’t until later that we realised it smelt of smoke. Going down the road the windscreen wipers stuck at the edge of the windscreen & we had to pull up 4 times in wind and rain on the hard shoulder of the motorway to release them….fortunately we weren’t going too far. The water in the onboard tank tasted bad too. On cleaning the motorhome out one of my granddaughters found a syringe and lighter in a cubbyhole. At the end of our period of hire we cleaned the motorhome to a high standard, it took us 40 minutes and was probably cleaner than when we picked it up, and I called the hirers to arrange to drop it off. I got a call back to say they weren’t expecting us that day and to leave it outside their premises. I do have an email that confirms dates & times of collection & drop off. I got an email the next day with a picture that shows hair on the carpet that doesn’t even look like our dog’s hair and certainly wasn’t there when we dropped the motorhome off. They also informed us that they were charging us £75 deep cleaning fee because of that hair. I am pretty disgusted really as we are always very conscious of not wanting to mess things up for other dog owners and make sure any place we stay is left immaculate. I have asked them to post the hair to us so we can check it….they have conveniently ignored that. I asked them 4 times to send me a sample of the hair, they wouldn’t, they lied about the return date despite me having the emails that confirmed it. They told me they were away that day and weren’t expecting us. I have the voicemail that confirms that then when I told them that they said they were there in the morning and we should have brought the van back then despite us having arranged to take it back in the afternoon. They totally ignored the complaints about the windscreen wipers, rank water in the onboard tank, dirty carpets and the smell of smoke and general dirt. In short, in it for the money and not bothered about being devious and underhand and ripping people off!
Response from Hire A Hymer
“Thank you for your review, it did come as a bit of a surprise as when we spoke when you dropped the motorhome off, you said that you had had a lovely time and the motorhome was great. You make quite a few points here – I will try to answer each one individually: 1. The main point of contention seems to be the cleaning charge for the dogs hairs. When you booked the motorhome we did explain in great detail that the dog valet fee was optional but it would be enforced if any trace of your dogs was left. Not only were there numerous hairs on the carpet but also on the seats (we specify that no dogs are allowed on the seats) but also the whole motorhome smelt ‘doggy’. I did send you pictures and a video of the hairs and offered for you to come and view them yourself (as you only live 20 minutes away) before any cleaning took place – you refused. No I did not send through samples of the hairs as they were the same as on the pictures that were sent. The hairs on the carpet were from a black dog and the ones on the seats were beige/white – you never did answer what colour your dogs were. The charge of £75 did not cover the full cleaning and again I am happy if you would like to speak to the company that cleaned the motorhome. 2. The windscreen wipers failing was due to a loose connection in the linkage – again apologies for that, it is now fixed. 3. The carpets were not spotless but they did not have any animal hair or smell on them. 4. The motorhome did not smell of smoke – we do not allow smoking in our motorhomes and we fine our customers if evidence is found. 5. We did not lie about the return date, we have many motorhomes coming and going and try to be as flexible as possible with our customers. For example we allowed you to collect the motorhome earlier than normal as you wanted to get to your destination earlier. We do say to our customers that you are welcome to drop off later providing that the motorhome is not booked out but we do ask our customers to text or ring to confirm that this is possible. The normal drop off time is 11am – we were in the office until midday but had to leave to attend a meeting. When you called it did come as a surprise because we had not heard from you saying that you wanted to return the motorhome later. Had you been on time or called before 11am we would have been there to meet you. 6. The water in the on board tank is not Evian and we do not recommend that our customers drink it. We do clean our tanks on a regular basis but it can take on a rather plastic taste. 7. When you say that your granddaughter found a syringe – I am assuming only the plastic part? Very sorry about this but I am sure it was to be used for medical rather than recreational purposes. 8. There are numerous lighters in the motorhomes used for the gas hob (normally in the kitchen area). I hope that this covers most of your points. Again sorry for your experience, we have tried to be fair but I guess you do not see it that way. We do not like conflict but we also do not like our motorhomes to be in an unfit state for use. Based on this experience, for those people wishing to take dogs, we have made the dog valet fee compulsory rather than optional.
We are not in business to rip people off but to provide good value for money backed up by good service – luckily the vast majority of our customers see us in this light.”
A mini motorhome flotilla!
November in Norfolk was great fun. Obviously the motorhomes are of an age but it does not harm us spoilt 21st century types to realise that not everything is perfect plastic. Had a motor home per family and stayed in beautiful locations with 4 very excited kids. Hire cost was very reasonable and all had a brilliant time with all the facilities you would need. Left hand drive actually helps driving when trying to keep close to the near-side on narrow roads.
First time motorhomers
We were motor home virgins till I talked to the silver tongued Peter and john at hire a hymer. From the initial stage of enquiry to actually driving away in Selma, they were fantastic extremely helpful and what a pleasure to meet someone who genuinely enjoys their job.A huge thanks from my wife Loo and me and I can’t wait to do it again hopefully from hire a hymer in the northwest.
When seven lads (all of whom are in the grip of some form of mid-life crisis) need a break then what better than a retro (early 90s) Hymer ‘van and a trip to Calais? We took two ‘vans from HireaHymer and never looked back. By the end of our mini trip we had bonded with our new friends on wheels as we unearthed their unique characters. They are not perfect (thank god, how dull if they were) , but they are well loved and you can sense the previous nice moments had in them. We have done this trip many times , usually dossing down in a cheap, hot Holiday Inn room – but this trip was something else, something quite different and that was the point. The two owners, John and Pete, kept the whole thing relaxed and friendly and so thanks to them any crisis we bore that weekend were soon forgotten. My advice: go and do it.
Great week in Dorset
We hired Smithers for a week at the beginning of the summer holidays for a trip to Dorset. I have to say that we found both dealing with Pete at Hire a Hymer and our week with Smithers to be an absolute Joy. Pete was helpful from the outset and put himself and his cleaning staff out to get Smithers ready for our trip early, even though the van had only just returned from a 3 month trip around Europe. The size of the van and the gearbox took a bit of getting used to, but as long as you are not expecting modern car type speed, you are in for a relaxing if slightly noisy drive. Over the week we took Smithers to Swanage, Lyme Regis and Weymouth, at each stop we were the envy of all the caravaners as we pulled up, rolled our the awning, got out the table and chairs and had the kettle on in less than 10 mins, while they were still trying to reverse into position.Overall I would recommend hiring a Hymer to any family wanting to have a fun filled holiday which allows you to appreciate time together. We will be booking again next year.
We decide after many weeks of speculating to scrap our holiday abroad and take the road for our family holiday , BEST decision we ever made we searched google and come accross “hire a hymer ” we was very impressed with the motor homes and decide to hire side show bob , we was very impressed with our new home for the week and couldnt wait to get on the road and set off on our adventure to scotland with many fun and tiring mini stops on the way , the hymer was always warm and cosy and we loved how comfortable the beds are , If you want an amazing holiday defo book a hymer you will not be dissapointed !!!!
To the End of the Road with Barney!
We’ve just returned from a long weekend at the End of the Road festival where Barney was our host for the duration. We found the layout of this van is ideal for four adults sharing – it has the usual drop down cab double and a fixed French bed at the rear. Both areas can be curtained off to provide some privacy too. Barney has everything you need in a campervan and feels very spacious when inside. Loads of cupboard space to put things out of the way and surprisingly good shower!
Great experience all round
Our holiday was this August 2013. We were new to motorhomes in general, having only holidayed in a newish one once, the previous year. My husband always wanted to drive a hymer and eventually talked me into hiring Maggie for a 2 week break in the Loire Valley, France. The holiday pretty much started the day we picked her up- our 2 kids were so excited, but I admit I was a little apprehensive- I didn’t know how reliable an old (vintage) motorhome would be, on such a long trip. But I needn’t have worried- Peter was very thorough and patient in his handover, and my hubby was like a kid in a sweetshop on the drive home! Maggie was clean, comfortable, and a reliable old girl. She had a full tank of fuel, and drove like one would expect a well-maintained vintage car to. My only difficulty was I couldn’t get used to the gears, and the left-hand drive, but that’s just cos I’ve been spoilt! When we got to France, we had a few issues- the light wouldn’t come on and we couldn’t find the trip switch and light plugs (even though this had been covered in the handover!). But we emailed Peter for help and I was impressed and pleased at the speed with which he always replied our emails! This was reassuring for me, especially being out of our comfort zone- wild-camping with 2 young kids. On our return, Peter was flexible, and agreed to let us return the hymer and pick up our car on a sunday, as I had to be at work on the previously agreed pick up date. All in all we had a fantastic experience; my husband is still a huge fan of Hymers and would love to own one if we could afford it!Big thumbs up to Peter- GREAT customer service!! I would certainly highly recommend them- if you like your vintage motorhomes (-_-).
First time novices to motor caravans. As we were going to Cambridge Folk Festival (again first time) we decided a motor caravan would be the best choice. Otto (our 6 birth Hymer) could not have been more suited. As this festival was in late July, in England …. well we planned for bad weather!!! Not at all, the sun was, well ….. out, all the time! Lots of eating out around the large fold up table and under the awning. Brilliant! Peter and John could not have been more helpful, and were a pleasure to deal with. I would highly recommend Hire a Hymer. Not the newest vans but extremely comfortable and well looked after. Thanks again guys, see you next year.
We have been thinking of purchasing a motor home for some time now, so when an opportunity came for a few days away at a friends farm, we thought about hiring a motor home. Googling motorhome hire, HIRE A HYMER came up. From the start the booking was easy and hassle free. Prices were very reasonable and they are PET friendly which is what we required.”Selma” was ready for us and PETER gave us a tour around her. Although most of their motor homes are older vehicles, they are VERY well looked after and VERY clean and tidy. The holiday went very well with no problems, (except human errors!!!) Selma drove very well and was comfortable. Peter was exceptionally helpful when “Selma” blew her tyre out. An unfortunate incident but this can happen to any one, and we all had a laugh when we returned her. I Cannot recommend HIRE A HYMER enough, Peter is a top bloke and we would definitely hire from his company again.THANK YOU GUYS BRILLIANT TIME!!!
Just to say what an excellent introduction to motor-homing our Hymer was. From a thorough handover, to the equipment, to the suitability of the van for our week’s hire – faultless!Highly recommended to anyone who wants to try before buying.
Great for Festivals!
We hired Ralph as a family to go to Shambala Festival this year. Having never used any type of motorhome before, I was grateful that Pete was able to take the time to go through all the features of the vehicle and show me how everything worked. It’s a bit intimidating setting off in a large, left-hand drive vehicle, but within a few miles I was perfectly comfortable and had no difficulty handling Northampton’s ring road system.Arriving at a festival and being set up within minutes, with onboard water
Goodwood Revival What a fantastic weekend my dad and I had at Goodwood Revival with Bart. It was our first time in a Motorhome and the experience was fantstic. The weather wasn’t kind to us so we got to try out Bart’s heating, which was very warm! I think we would have packed up and gone home if we had been in a tent. Although he is one of the smallest on the fleet he was plenty big enough for two of us and lots of people commented on how much cooler than a modern motorhomes he was. Another big thank-you for the use of the trailer – was perfect for towing my old Lambretta down to Goodwood.
Racy Ralph Well we thought we’d better hire a Motorhome to see if we actually like the experience considering we had sold our flat and are planning to be an vacation for a year! So having searched the web I came across HIRE A HYMER. instantly keen because there Hymers of course I booked for over a week to go to a Motorhome rally to purchase a van – and we did, a Hymer of course and to get the experience of living in a Hymer . Well, Peter kindly advised that we may benefit from a larger van with a fixed bed but we declined his advise and chose Ralph a 555 because in our real lives we drive smart cars and did not feel that confident. Well within the hour had had mastered the driving and was impressed with my special awareness ability! Initially the van sounded quite loud but considering these vans (sorry no disrespect Ralph ) are nostalgically old but we soon got use to the sweet purring sound whilst travelling along country lanes. We avoided motorways and opted for more pleasant vistas. We did hook up on site for a couple of nights but spent most of our time wild camping- new Forrest was amazing. Back to Ralph, the size of the van was plenty big enough for us and the fuel consumption was great as was the LPG use (hardly used any) We found the dining area and incredible comfy over cab bed gave us enough space to enjoy comfort. Waking up to real wood interior and superb craftsmanship is incredible for your soul and sleep hygiene,! We hardly used the heating and were always felt toastie. The vans are wonderfully nostalgic and so reliable you expect from Mercedes. So to conclude, this was the lifestyle we have chosen and did actually buy a Hymer although not as regal as Ralph but a close second. I would recommend hiring from Peter and John and take a week out or more from our usual annual comforts and try this experience you’ll never forget. I was sad to hand the van back but we can now plan our future destinations an adventure before dementia with our trusty Hymer and pitch up under the stars. Is the kettle on Rob and were did I put my keys. X
Time To Bart-y
Our first trip in a motorhome, but it won’t be our last. Incredibly easy to book and organise Bart for the festival this year. Thorough handover, and even when I forgot the basics (how to make the tap in the bathroom turn on) Peter was available and happy to help and didn’t laugh at my stupidity.Remarkably easy to drive, equipped with everything we needed for five nights away, including comfy beds. An elderly but well loved vehicle, Bart was perfect. Thanks guys.
Sea, Surf and Motorhomes
Easter with Ralph.. What a great time my wife a 4 year old
Just returned (& recovered) from a mid-May to mid-July tour of France, Spain and UK to celebrate retirement and what a trip! Smithers was “new” to the fleet and he didn’t miss a beat the entire 6000km+ trip. He started every time and did everything we asked of him… perhaps not as fast as the fancy new motorhomes that blew past on the outside lanes but we believe that the journey as just as important as the destination… it gives you a chance to “smell the roses” and the countryside was all new, so we didn’t need or want to rush. After a hectic working life, we relished the chance for a slightly slower pace. We also got alot of waves and smiles from other “vanners” who we suspect used to own a “last century” Hymer. Our only problem was “User Error” when the one (and only) time we didn’t have a lookout posted, we broke one of Smithers rear light lens’ backing up in a French supermarket carpark, for which we’re profoundly apologetic.
Being a little larger than some his brothers, Smithers is perfect for longer vacations – especially if you have a few friends joining you. We loved the fixed bed (aft) but the forward drop-down bed also proved extremely comfortable & spacious when we were joined by friends.
Being on a long vacation, we wanted to do as much catering at “home” as possible as we tire of continually dining out for extended periods. The 3 burner hob was more than adequate and of course the markets in France and Spain are to die for, with fresh produce of a quality we can’t find in the supermarkets back here in NZ (the really good stuff here is all exported!).
Also – the on-board fridge is a necessity so make sure you understand (a) how to light it when using the gas option and (b) how to check it is running correctly. We lost a fridge-load of food as we weren’t paying attention to instructions when we picked the van up. Until then, we had used the electric hookup.
We can’t recommend Pete and his team highly enough. They were great to do business with. When getting the original quote, there was no fluffing around, just a straight-up great price for the (long) hire period, compared to other companies who used complicated pricing structures to maximise their return.
They supplied us with bedding and everything we needed for life on the road (we did splash out and buy a couple of wine glasses as it just seemed wrong to drink French Rose from tumblers and a hard-top folding outdoor table would be better than than the canvas model as plates slipped into the centre – but I suspect this was just because Peter didn’t have time to find anything else before we arrived!).
They even threw in an electric fan heater as the May nights were still chilly and although we had difficulty finding LPG in Spain, I note that Pete is adding the Autogas fittings to his vehicles to make life simpler – just fill up wherever you see Autogas (called GPL in France) at service stations. The Shell gas stations in the UK refused to refill bottles so this is the obvious solution.
We were delighted that Pete offered to pick us up off the London train as we didn’t have our bearings – this is just another example of the level of service they provided. AND we knew they were only a phone call away of anything had gone wrong.
TIP 1: if you’re going to the Continent, before you go, make sure you get hold of the ACSI Campground Guide and discount card as you make great (and significant) savings on overnight rates in several European countries included Spain & France. I noted that upon our return, the guys at Hire A Hymer had a few copies available in their office, so check with them first. (They are also available from www.vicariousbooks.co.uk)
TIP 2: Take the Satnav option but make sure it’s maps are up to date. We had some interesting moments on the Continent as the unit hadn’t been updated for 2 years. Apart from that – satnav “Kate” was indespensible.
Finally – if any Antipodeans considering a similar journey want any any other information, we invite you to contact us by email at: [email protected]
Everyone else – Just Do It!

Glasto - June 2013
We took Ralph with us on my inaugral trip (a) in a campervan and (b) to Glastonbury. Peter and John were excellent throughout prior to the booking and with queries etc., most helpful. The holiday went well but we weren’t able to return Ralph on time due to extenuating circumstances, again Peter was able to assist with this so there was no difficulty in the end. I shall be requesting another reservation for next year, yes, it really did go that well!
Glasto 2013 We took Ned to Glasto this year and had a fab time. Hire a hymer are an excellent company that provide a superb service. Ned drove like a dream and was immaculate inside. Would highly recommend and will definitely be hiring again.
Glastonbury 2013 We had an excellent time at Glastonbury with Marge. I would definitely recommend HireAHymer. Marge was great, perfect for what we needed and the staff were really friendly and helpful and quick to reply to our questions.
Glastonbury 2013 Highly recommended! Staff are friendly and helpful. Motorhomes are well maintained and full of character. We really enjoyed our time with Disco Stu and will use HireAHymer again in the future.
Glasto 2013 Top Campervan.Top Company.Top Service.Top all-round.Highly Recomended.
Fantastic hire We took Selma to Glastonbury this year, and couldn’t have asked for a better van or better service from the guys. Everything from the booking process, getting answers to questions that I inundated them with and the pick up and drop off process was done fantastically. And Selma herself was fantastic. Everything we needed was included, she was easy to drive, decent on fuel and comfortable. Looking forward to finding another weekend that we can hire from these guys.
We took Sideshow Bob to France. !! He was great to drive easy to manoeuvre for his size and very comfortable to sleep in.Great shower too:-)We stayed on quite a few camping sites where Bob seamed to be loved and admired by everyone passing by.We got caught up in a sudden massive storm in Rocamadour in the Dordogne where hailstones were the size of golf balls were coming down breaking branches from the trees and bouncing off the camper. Unfortunately we had had the awning out as it had been previously very hot and sunny. The awning ended up with a couple of tips in it:-( We explained when we got back and they were very nice about it. :-)All good and we had a fabulous time.Wendy and Mark
Download Festival c/o HireAHymer Throughout the entire booking process HireAHymer were brilliant, humoring me by answering my incessant questions, being a first timer at this years Download Festival (first time without having to do the walk of death into the campsites that is!) We collected Herb and Bart on the Wednesday, and were given a full tour of the vehicle and any further questions we had were answered, then it was off and up the M1 to Donington. The vans were easy to drive, fairly easy to manoeuvre into camp (given Herbs rather large ‘back-end’). Then it was handbrake on and beers open! Sleeping / Cooking etc. were brilliant – the fridge kept the beer cool and the hobs kept the tea hot in the morning… we did have a [user initiated] issue with a leisure battery on the Friday, but HireAHymer were brilliant sorting it out for us and offered to come onto site to sort it if needed…. never felt we were on our own for the entire trip. The return and hand-back process was easy, and we’re already looking to book for next year – definitely not going back to camping now!! Thanks all at HireAHymer for a GREAT experience…
Easter with Ralph… What a great time my wife a 4 year old & a 7 month old had in Ralph traveled around 450 miles without a problem Ralph was very clean, beds were comfertable, heating was very good, cooking was easy. Traveled to bath, ilfracombe & the cotswold, poor Ralph got a bit beaten up by the monkeys at longleat, what a great way to drive through the saffari park. Would highly recommed HireaHymer & will hire with them again. Keep up the good work lads.
Fantastic Hi Myself and my wife have always wanted to try out a Hymer as we have hired out a high top van and found them very cramped and uncomfortable We are a family of five and we had no problem with space in this Hymer I found it very relaxing to drive and am more than impressed with its performance even though it is 20 years old WE WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIRING FOR A FAMILY HOLIDAY Our only disappointment is that we left it to late to book one up for July to Aug as they have all been booked out 🙁
I believe that the ‘camping under a tent thing’ is well and truly gone with my family as we had such a fantastic time in Bart. It was great to have the experience of being in a field but the knowledge of a dry bed and heating at the end of the day was brilliant. As Bart is an automatic he is easy and light to handle, even being left hand drive is no real problem. Great weekend and looking forward to taking him out again. 🙂
Long weekend in Wales We found Hire a Hymer while looking at motorhomes on Gumtree and when we discovered it was only a couple of miles up the road from us decided it would be a great opportunity to see how we liked motorhoming. Yes we did! We soon got used to Marge’s idiosyncratic characteristics and had a good run down to a lovely campsite in Talybont on Usk. The nights were very cold but we stayed snug in the van. With a little bit of adaptation we were able to get our tandem onto the bike rack. John and Peter were very helpful with some minor problems and we will definitely be back again. No more shivering in a tent!
Van was clean, tidy, well equipped and everything worked. Initially, left hand drive was tricky but became easier as the week progressed. Flexibility of pick-up and return times was handy. A little padding on the rungs of the ladder for getting up to bed would be appreciated.Generally, a good experience
Happy Campers!Had a great weekend in the motor home. Came with everything we needed, and was a better drive than some I’ve Driven. Everything worked great, and we were comfortable at all times. Thanks to the team, Jamie
First time, won’t be the last time!We had a really wonderful weekend taking Marge to Norfolk, the first time we have ever been motorhoming. Hymers are cool! Thanks for allowing us to take our dogs along. The separate shower cubicle with great water pressure was as good as being at home. We are having withdrawal symptoms now and wish we were going off this weekend too.
Weekend in WalesI wasn’t too sure what to expect as I pulled out of the farm driveway in my old classic Hymer and started heading to Wales ,but it wasnt long for my love affair with Selma to kick in .What a wonderfully classic motorhome ,she was great to drive ,left hand drive automatic ,no problem at all ,big great steering wheel and handled superb. When I was pitched up on the camp site she became a home from home with all the facilities you could need for a weekend or weeks away . I’ve booked Ralph for a weekend in July ,and can’t wait to get away again in a classic, thanks to Peter
Hymer in the peak We had a wonderful time in the peak national park, camping on a isolated farm on top of the world with views to dream of. And the beauty about the hymer is that you can lay in bed and dream right out of the panoramic front window. The shower is also large enough to really be used and we had plenty water even after camping in the wild without fresh water and electricity. Amazingly the narrow roads were not a problem, and the hymer is small enough to park nearly anywhere. We are now planning our next venture to the continent. What a wonderful way to get around
We had a fantastic time travelling all around Somerset and Devon for the week in Lisa. The facilities were excellent-The shower was hot and we managed to get eight showers out of thisVery warm and cosy with the gas heater, so warm we had to switch it out at night in November! All mod cons– reversing camera, TV, DVD player and grillIt was lovely to do some wild camping, as well as sitesWe would hire a classic hymer again and also recommend it to our friends and family.Peter was very friendly and accomodating, answering all of our many questions! He also showed us around all of his collection of ‘Simpsons’!
This was our first time in a motorhome, and with 3 children in tow, we weren’t quite sure how it would go. We needn’t have worried, everything about the whole holiday from booking to return was seamless. John and Peter explained everything at collection so we felt confident to hit the road.First stop , our driveway! The kids were so excited upon Maggie’s arrival and it was too late to go away on our first night, so they decided to set up home on the drive. We hooked up and after 5 minutes of having the gas fire on, the van was cosy and warm and the kids had a good night’s sleep. On Sunday off we drove to Peterchurch in Herefordshire, Maggie was a solid drive and my hubby soon got used to the gears and left hand drive. The campsite at Poston Mills was beautiful and we enjoyed setting up the awning and sitting out in some (Autumnal) sunshine! We visited nearby Hay-on-Way enjoying the many bookshops, and picked up some local produce to cook that night in Maggie. The 3 ring gas hob allows for easy cooking and I was able to make a family meal most nights (and wash up afterwards!). The fridge and small freezer are also really handy, and we were able to store a good selection of food and drinks. On Wednesday we went off to Cardiff staying at Tregedar House Caravan Site on the way. My son and hubby had tickets for the Dr Who Exhibition, so we drove Maggie to the ‘Park
We hired Bart for our first family trip in a camper van to go on our Summer holidays to France. We were attracted by the novelty, price and the unlimited mileage but didn’t really have any idea how we and are kids (6
We can not speak highly enough of our experiences when hiring a vintage campervan from Peter James at HireAHymer. The idea of hiring a vintage camper had not occurred to us until we happened across his excellent website, so we contacted Peter to confirm availability of one of the larger campers. Peter responded quickly to our emails and queries, and made the whole experience very pleasurable. He even came and collected us from the train station in Milton Keynes, before giving us a very thorough familiarization tour of Barney. When we had a fridge failure, his brother John even offered to bring a portable replacement to us near Torquay. We have no reservation in recommending HireAHymer to other New Zealand visitors.
Barney at the races Collected Barney 12th April for a weekend. My husband does Club motor racing and as Barney has a tow bar, he was ideal to attach the race car and trailer to. It was also my sisters 50th birthday, so a good weekend planned. Sitting and driving on the wrong side of the vehicle, we soon got used to, as did we the upside down gears!. Towed very well, even with a car and trailer that weighs 1600kg, we still achieved 25 miles to the gallon. Very comfortable, well equipped, created a lot of interest at the race track, and did have to conduct a few guided tours, people could not believe how much room there was inside. Would reccommend to anyone and Peter was so helpful. Thank you so much. Otto is booked for a trip to Belguim in June, for my husband to race at Spa. P.S. Weekend finished perfectly, as my husband won his class and we bought home another trophy.
We hired Lisa for a week over Christmas and we had a fabulous time. We drove around the south west of England staying in camp sites or pulling up where ever we felt like. As a first time van driver, Lena felt it was really easy to accustom to and grew to prefer driving Lisa over a car! The weather wasn’t always great on the trip and it was amazing having all that space in the van to hang out in and listen to the wild rain and winds. We would like to thank Peter for being so helpful, good humored and available to give us advice when ever we needed it. We are already talking about having another hymer trip with Hireahymer soon, could not recommend enough.
Hi Peter,Just a quick note to say what a fantastic holiday we had in Bart, he offers a mix of classic charm, matched with reliability and a very comfortable home from home. We really enjoyed our holiday to Chester along the North Wales coast, over to Anglesey, through the mountain passes of Snowdonia, and on the backward leg, Llangollen, Stratford upon Avon and back to yourselves. 600 faultlesss and very enjoyable miles. I would like to take the opportunity to thank yourself and John for making the trip such a joy, all round from start to finish. Your professionalism is bound to make your new venture a great success. All the best.regardsRuss,Nikki,Sam and Bailey.

We have just rented Bart for a week to tour Wales, what a superb van! reliable, comfortable and a complete joy to drive. Hire A Hymer caterfor all your needs with regards to kitting out the van, with table and chairs, BBQ and many other extra’s along with everything from toilet rolls and washing up liquid toall the condiments, tea and coffee you should need. You can literally turn up with a bag of clothes a little food and go. As for the van itself, we challenge you to find anything so comfortable!the pull down bed at the front over the cab is a joy to sleep in and would rival any hotel bed. The rear lounge sofa also turns into what can be described as a king sized bed and is also on par with the pull down bed. The captain chairs at the front ensure a comfortable ride and deliver you to your destination feeling refreshed. We fully recommend Hire A Hymer as their service and vehicles are second to none and you are guaranteed a holiday to remember.
We arranged to hire the Hymer from Peter of Hireahymer and the whole process was very straight forward and we were able to collect the Hymer early than expected. This was our first time in a motorhome and what an experience. We decided to hire a Motorhome because it allowed us the freedom to go and do whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted and most importantly we were able to take our two small dogs rather than put them in kennels. We planned to travel to the west coast of Scotland and the highlands via a visit to a couple of friends on the way. Having the Hymer was great because it meant that we were able to visit our friends and not worry about where the dogs were going to stay and without too much intrusion on our friends. To cut a long story short we travelled to the Isle of Skye with various stops on the way which were only possible because we were in the Hymer and driving around we saw plenty of B
From beginning to end, the process of booking, collecting, holidaying and returning our Hymer (Lisa) was seamless, with such friendly helpful service from all at Hire a Hymer. Lisa served us brilliantly on our trip to Scotland; she was cosy, reliable and very well received by Motorhome officiandoes! Those in the know recognised her as excellent quality, and after 2 weeks we knew they were right. She was easy to drive, easy to park, spacious and very well equipped inside and out, right down to tea and coffee and herbs! Although a little worried about the sleeping arrangements above the seats, we found the bed really comfy and large enough! And although the bathroom appears on the petite side, it was a lovely shower , and the toilet was easy to ‘maintain’ (by the hubbie). All in all it was a brilliant holiday, and one we would not hesitate to recommend.
As motor home novices we were quite apprehensive about taking to the open road this weekend. However, after the comprehensive briefing and confidence building we felt ready and in reality you were right after 5 minutes ‘you get it’. Great motor home with everything you need for a fun family break out on the road.
We hired Homer for a weekend in the New Forest. Peter went out of his way to help and to make sure we set off fully prepared. The sun shone, the wine flowed and the kids slept in ’till late. No more tents for me, it’s a Hymer from now on. Thanks Peter
Hired the 6 berth over the jubilee weekend. Went back to a warm motorhome on the sunday, despite getting soaked through. We were the only motorhome to drive straight off the camping field, all the rest had to get towed out of the mud. Will definitely be hiring this again. Great friendly service.
You might like to record our sincere thanks for your help and support, without which our holiday would not have been as easy for us. It was our first time in a motor home and Jan and I were pleasantly surprised at the way you helped us find our way through the new experience. We think you were definitely going beyond what might normally be expected in a commercial arrangement. We felt that you and Heini greeted us as friends and gave us every support to help us on our way. Especially considering that we were making arrangements from Australia, we thought your level of service was outstanding. Thanks for an unforgettable experience and we hope to see you again one day.
Hired ‘Maggie’ for a long weekend and we had a great time. The motorhome was very comfortable and clean and the service offered was brilliant! Not too bad to drive when we got used to the size and surprisingly good on fuel. Godsend in the rain! A really friendly service. Thank you.
Moe’s European Easter..What a holiday and what an experience, Moe was fantastic in all weathers travelling through France including a snow blizzard across the midi Pyrenees, but he really came into his own in the sun of Spain. Comfortable, eye catching and easy to drive is what Moe is all about. Already planning my next trip in him this Autumn, thanks Peter and Hire a Hymer. Superb
Holidays abroad are now a thing of the past for my partner and i. We had a fabulous time with our pooch Bella on our road trip round norfolk in marge. Easy to drive and even easier to set up with camp prepared in under 10 minutes, making it perfect for several stop overs and day trips. Thank you to Peter and John who are so helpful and easy to deal with and made our trip so much easier with their sound advice.I would recommend the hymer holiday every time and looking forward to our next trip already 🙂
The four-berth was both our home and the third person in our BBC ONE history films The History Man
We hired Lisa the hymer s580 for a weekend break, we had never driven or stayed in a motor home before and we found the to be everything we wanted and more. The hymer was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The added extras like cleaning products, maps, playing cards and milk just to mention a few were an added bonus. The communication with Peter was excellent. A fantastic weekend. We will most deffinatlybe hiring again and recommending to others.
We hired Homer the S700 for an Easter break in Cornwall, it came fully equipped, even had tea, coffee and sugar. I was surprised how easy the Hymer was to drive considering the size and also found it to be quite economical on fuel. I’d be hard pressed to find a fault, my only objection was handing it back as I wish we had it longer. Thanks Peter and we will defiantly be hiring again. Mike and Dawn
Hi Peter, just a short note to say how much we enjoyed our weekend trip to the New Forest in your classic Hymer. She was a dream to drive with her auto gearbox and provided a warm and cosy retreat from the mid February chill. Her retro look certainly turned a few heads and made the trip that little bit special. A memorable birthday treat!! Looking forward to booking her again. Best regards, Steve and Ruth
We took Pete’s newest six berth van, Herb, halfway across Europe in two weeks from Hire a Hymer in Northampton to Italy’s Adriatic Coast via Munich, Verona, Turin and the Alps , over 3,000 kilometres. A road trip of not unsubstantial proportions! We couldn’t have asked for a better companion to ferry us on our journey than the erstwhile, experienced and sturdy Herb. With the journey being as long as it was and the challenging terrain that lied in wait, we must admit we had some reservations as to whether Herb would be able to handle it.We needn’t have worried , Herb traversed the Brenner Pass without a second thought, negotiated central Turin with elegance and to top it all, took the Col du Mont Cenis on head to head , and then laughed in victory.A fantastic journey that we’ll remember for some time to come. Thanks Pete!
We had a good two weeks in the motorhome with our two children. We went down to cornwall and thoroughly enjoyed ourselfs walking around and going down to the beach. The hymer was plenty big enough and John and Pete were very friendly and helpful on picking up and dropping off. We had a good holiday and hopefully we can do this again.
We hired ‘Homer’ for our two-week family holiday around the south of the UK. We found the classic Hymer to be well equipped with everything we needed and more. Having previously owned a caravan and several tents we were pleased with how easy and stress free it was to pitch at each site. The layout with two fixed double beds, provided hassle free evenings. Homer was extremely spacious and turned many heads. I would highly recommend hiring a Hymer from Peter, as the service provided was first class!Bev and Greg
Just come back with herb, we called it J LO To take a a saying from my 2 yr old, This is great fun yeahhhh. We have had a really easy break, we picked it up, i was a little unsure but they are very friendly and easy going. Within 5 minutes i had the driving on the left nailed, an relaxed . We drove down to Hunstanton, the baby in captains chair, The campers are comfortable, and have everything you need.It really was easy we arrived plugged it in.an few minutes later was sitting outside with a cuppa under the awning, enjoying are hols
