we were very impressed with how helpful Peter and his staff were and being able to pick up early was a great help. this was an experiment to take our two dogs with us and we soon got into a routine especially at bed time. Unfortunately we picked the wettest time of year to tour Scotland so were unable to use the bbq or awning. Gunter drives really well once I got used to a manual gear box. We had one minor set back that the side door lock jammed so had to enter from the front. Overall I would recommend this company for the ease of booking friendly service but if we book again we would need a bigger van.
This was our first venture into motor homing and won't be our last! The whole experience was made so easy by Peter and his team and of course Bart Hymer. We travelled through 7 countries in 2 weeks, stopping in Slovenia to compete in the World Masters Rowing Regatta. Bart provided us with a very comfortable bed so we arrived each day rested and refreshed and when the weather turned against us, we relished been warm and dry and relieved not to be under canvas to the envy of some of our competitors! On our return Hire a Hymer were accommodating about our drop off, and when a week later we discovered we had left some shoes in a locker they put them in the post to save us going to fetch them. Thank you for making our holiday so successful.
A great couple of weeks away in Europe in Millhouse. Good fuel consumption. Although left hand drive, easy to drive whilst in Europe. The only complaint I have really is that there was no corkscrew provided.
This was our first rental with Hire-a-Hymer but definitely NOT the last.
Over the past 5 years, we have rented a wide range of RV's from pop-top T5's to big 6 berth motor-homes. Honestly - this has been the best experience out of the all of our RV holiday rentals.
We had, sadly, lost a lot of enthusiasm for motor-homing due to the last 2 rentals. Both brand new, very high spec motor-homes that looked like New York apartments but proved quite uncomfortable, impractical and awkward in day to day use.
Lenny, on the other hand was far from new - but absolutely perfect for our Christmas in Norfolk. We are a couple with 2 small dogs.
Loads of space in a very clever layout. The weather was very cold this Christmas but we were as cosy as could be with the heating system. Two incredibly comfortable and spacious double beds. We preferred the lounge bed to the pull down bed over the cab seats simply because it was so much bigger, easier to get in and out of and meant we could watch TV. Setting it up was also dead easy.
The pull down bed was super comfortable - just the added complexity of climbing up and down a ladder in your 50's made the lounge bed the easier choice.
Everything worked perfectly. Lenny was a great drive. Strong engine a little bit noisy but quickly got used to it. Great visibility including the reversing camera. Dead easy to park. Automatic gearbox a joy. LHD not an issue due to the high seating position. We had sun, rain, hail, snow, high winds - the lot. Nothing was a problem for Lenny.
Peter, the owner was most helpful and friendly right from our initial telephone inquiry.
Unfortunately, I damaged something internally that I am very annoyed about as it was clumsy on my part. Peter has been a complete gentleman in his response to this breakage.
Excited about going for an even bigger Hymer in the Summer from Peter.
We rented 2 motor homes in 2016. The 1st motor home Broke down and we had to have a new battery fitted the first day and also the cupboards were not securely attached and constantly came out and had to secure with bungee cords. They still came out and was really annoying. Plus the motor home leaked very badly when rained. It was awful. They never offered any compensation or anything. Would have appreciated something. As we were renting 2 motorhomes.
The 2nd motorhome, also had to have bungee cords to secure fridge. Very annoying. Then a drunk driver hit the motor home from behind. Which was not our fault. Police confirmed this. Peter James has been paid out the money from the insurance and still after 1 1/2 years refuses to give us our deposit back.
I would never recommend Hire a Hymer.

Thanks for your review and I'm sorry to hear of your experience only now - had you made me aware of any issues when you rented I would have been very happy to address them. It is not a normal occurrence for ourselves - both of these motorhomes were run from the owners homes and regrettably we were unable to uphold these owners to our own standards. We now only hire vehicles from the one location in Northampton.
The accident that you mention took place in France and was subject to an insurance investigation - which is still ongoing. As I have explained many times I am waiting for my insurance company to apportion blame for the accident. The owner of the motorhome (which is not HAH) was paid out by my insurance company but it has yet to be decided who's insurance policy will pay (apportion blame). Hence if I have to pay through my policy, I am liable for the insurance excess..... excess = security deposit.
I am only holding the Evans' security deposit as they were involved in the accident. I am not holding your deposit.

"Non-Fault incident in France. TP hit hirer in rear. Repairs to vehicle totalled £8240.
Insurer’s received a counter claim from the French representatives so the recovery of losses remains pending for the time being. As discussed previously, claims involving foreign parties will inevitably take longer to settle due to communication restraints etc. I will let you know once we hear any more news on this."
As I have explained to Mrs Evans, if blame is apportion to the other party, I will give a full refund of the £750 security deposit. I wish that insurance companies moved quicker but I am not in control of this.

A further update from our insurance company:
As discussed this morning, this claim is still very much ongoing. As previously explained the claims process is a lot longer when dealing with foreign third parties and their insurance companies. On this particular claim matters have not been helped as the Motor Insurers Bureau (The MIB) are also involved. They are the body that help to liaise between Insurance companies in different parts of Europe.
To be absolutely clear and to avoid any further misunderstanding, the current position is that the vehicle , FX09JUC was repaired and your insurance company LV have paid for these repairs. LV are now pursuing a recovery of their outlay from the responsible party’s insurers in France via The MIB. Unfortunately the third party is disputing liability which is why it is taking longer than anticipated to recover any monies. So effectively this claim is still showing on the Claims record as a “Fault” incident because liability for the accident has not yet been apportioned and agreed.
As per the terms & conditions of the Rental Agreement signed by any customer of Hire A Hymer, you are well within your rights to retain the customers deposit in such circumstances. Unfortunately there is no guarantee as to when this matter will be concluded but rest assured LV are doing all they can."
Just a quick note to say that we have had to postpone our hymer hire but Peter was fast to reply to emails and really helpful to resolve the issue. Really great customer service, thanks!
A group of 3 families each hired a Hymer to go to Shambala Festival and it was our best one yet! We go every year and it was such a different experience form our usual camping in a Bell Tent. No carrying stuff. Great comfortable beds, black out blinds so we slept later, and despite the hot wether we were lovely and cool inside the camper. We loved it so much will be hiring again next year.
Peter and his team were so helpful and contactable they were very accommodating with a laid back attitude that made the whole experience from start to finish a pleasure. The kids loved it too and thought it was a really cool with the swivel chairs and drop down bed over cab.
I can't recommend highly enough and give it a 10/10

This was our 4th year using hire a hymer and as always thew service was impeccable. We previously hired ned and decided to got a bit bigger this year and went for nelson. Cant beat hire a hymer as their value, quality and service are next to none. We will be back next year. Look forward to seeing you again soon Peter.
We hired Homer for 5 weeks this summer and had a fantastic holiday travelling throughout Ireland and Wales. We really enjoyed staying in Homer and will definitely be hiring again. Peter and the team at Hire a Hymer are really helpful and nothing was too much bother for them. Such a great company to do business with and as I've said we will definitely be booking again. Thanks so much for all your help. We loved Homer. It was quite sad to hand him back.
We went to a festival and this changed it completely. We didn't have to heave our tent through the fields, just drive up. park and party. It gave us so much flexibility and freedom. My husband, daughter and I hired Gunter and we loved him! The shower, heating, toilet and fridge felt like luxury! There was lots of space to keep things too.
Also the staff at Hire a Hymer are marvellous. They made us feel really comfortable about hiring Gunter. They expected us to take care of it, obviously but not to the point that we felt nervous being in it. They also gave us a great induction into using it. They were laid back and professional.
Hire a Hymer - it's the best thing you can do - great van, great customer service, great freedom.
